What's Up Downtown

Mayor Oscar Goodman and Councilman Ricki Barlow joined Neon Museum officials on May 12 to celebrate two milestones for the cultural institution taking shape in the downtown Cultural Corridor: the dedication of the Neon Boneyard Park and the ceremonial ground breaking for the Neon Museum Visitor's Center, planned to open fully to the public in spring 2012.

Until next year's final opening, the outdoor Neon Boneyard Park will be open for reserved programming. The Neon Museum will continue to give daily tours of the expansive collection that features more than 150 neon and other historic signs, including the original Aladdin's lamp, Silver Slipper and other classics. With signs dating from the late 1930s through the early 90s, the Neon Boneyard collection offers a unique perspective of Las Vegas history through its most memorable art form.

The Neon Museum has been covered extensively by media around the globe, including the New York Times and Miami Herald. City officials say excitement and interest surrounding the Neon Museum has been tremendous.

Tours are by advance appointment only. To schedule, call (702) 387-6366. For more information, visit neonmuseum.org.
