WHAT’S UP DOWNTOWN

Mob Bar, formerly Sidebar, opens to the public on December 5: the 78th anniversary of Repeal Day.

On Dec. 5, 1933, the 18th Amendment was repealed, ending prohibition and giving Americans the constitutional ability to consume alcohol.

“Prohibition played a major role in the growth and evolution of organized crime,” said Seth Schorr, CEO of Fifth Street Gaming, owner and operator of Mob Bar. “So it’s only natural and fitting we align ourselves with our neighbor, The Mob Museum, to capitalize on the interest and intrigue surrounding organized crime and those who fought it. Prohibition was a significant day in mob history, so it’s a great day to re-open and celebrate Sidebar’s new identity.”

Mob Bar has taken over the Sidebar space next to Triple George downtown. The renovation included new furniture, a new outdoor façade, and interior wall coverings - all with a 1920s theme. “We are going for the 1920’s Supper Club, Boardwalk Empire look and feel,” added Schorr. Mob Bar employees are dressed in period style, and even some of the glassware is reminiscent of the era.

Mob Bar’s drink menu features a variety of cocktails with fresh ingredients and 1920’s-era names, including The Flapper, The Wise Guy, Capo di Capi, and the signature “Made” Mojito. The Italian-inspired food menu includes classic favorites such as Spaghetti and Meatballs “just like mama used to make,” as well as a Caprese Salad, Antipasto Plate, seafood pastas and more.

Authenticity is the rule at Mob Bar, from the period uniform to glassware from the 1920s. “We feel it is important to have authentic items since many of the Mob Museum guests will be ‘Mob Aficionados,’" said Schorr.
